Biography
Person.
Nicolas Ghesquière is a French fashion designer who led Balenciaga’s creative direction from 1997 to 2012 before joining Louis Vuitton. At Balenciaga he helped renew interest in the house through collections that combined technical experimentation with its couture history.
He became artistic director of Louis Vuitton’s women’s collections in November 2013, succeeding Marc Jacobs, and presented his first collection the following March. His work there includes the Petite Malle bag, which translates the house’s trunk-making heritage into a small accessory, alongside designs such as the Twist and GO-14 bags and Archlight trainer. His career links the reinterpretation of historic fashion houses with contemporary image-making and product design.
