Greg Gorman is a photographer born in Kansas City, Missouri, in 1949. He studied photojournalism at the University of Kansas and completed an MFA in cinematography at the University of Southern California. Photographing Jimi Hendrix in 1968 helped spark his commitment to photography.
His practice centres on portraits of figures from film, music, art and sport. An early assignment to photograph David Bowie helped establish his career. Alongside commissions and exhibitions, he has published photographic books, including It’s Not About Me: A Retrospective, and teaches through practical photography workshops.
