Biography
Person.
Prince (1958–2016) was an American singer, songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist from Minneapolis. His recordings combined funk, rock, soul, pop and jazz, often bringing themes of sexuality and spirituality into the same musical world.
His work ranged from the electronic arrangements of Dirty Mind and Controversy to the film and album Purple Rain (1984), made with the Revolution. Songs such as I Wanna Be Your Lover and When Doves Cry became part of a repertoire that crossed genre boundaries. He was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2004, and unreleased recordings continued to appear after his death.
