Paul Peart, also known professionally as Paul Peart-Smith, is a British comics artist of Afro-Caribbean heritage. His work in British comics includes contributions to Judge Dredd’s publishing world, where he was credited as Paul Peart during the 1990s.
Peart-Smith later adapted W. E. B. Du Bois’s The Souls of Black Folk into a graphic novel, published by Rutgers University Press in 2023. The book uses comics to revisit Du Bois’s examination of race, identity and life after emancipation. Based in Tasmania, Peart-Smith has also worked on exhibitions, including co-curating Black Power, extending his practice into the presentation of Black history and visual culture.
