Biography
Person.
Inge Grognard is a Belgian make-up artist whose career developed alongside Martin Margiela and the Antwerp fashion scene. Originally from Genk, she trained in Antwerp and worked with the Antwerp Six before collaborating with designers including Raf Simons, Veronique Branquinho, Jurgi Persoons and Haider Ackermann.
Her approach explores emotion, darkness and the grotesque as alternatives to conventional beauty. The book Inge Grognard: Makeup 1989–2005 documents an early period of her work. Her practice also featured in MoMu’s exhibition Masquerade, Make-up & Ensor, which connected contemporary beauty work with the painter’s use of masks.
