Biography
Person.
Liam Watson is a British recording engineer and producer who founded Toe Rag Studios in London. Beginning with recordings of his own band, he developed a studio centred on analogue tape, older mixing desks and carefully chosen microphones. The aim was a distinctive recording sound rather than simply the use of vintage equipment.
His work on the White Stripes' Elephant brought the studio wider attention in 2003. Watson's approach favoured musicians playing together and making decisions during recording, with the room, instruments and engineering treated as parts of the performance. Toe Rag became closely associated with independent rock and garage music.
