Biography
Person.
Iggy Pop is an American singer and performer born James Newell Osterberg Jr. in Michigan in 1947. After playing drums with the Iguanas, he became the frontman of the Stooges. Their confrontational music and performances helped shape punk, with British groups including the Sex Pistols and the Damned drawing on their example.
Working with David Bowie, Pop recorded the solo albums The Idiot and Lust for Life in 1977, extending his music into new rhythmic and electronic territory. His later collaborators have included Debbie Harry, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Peaches and Josh Homme. As a BBC Radio 6 Music presenter, he has also brought his wide musical interests to British radio.
