Biography
Person.
Joe Conzo Jr. is a photographer whose images document the South Bronx during the emergence of hip-hop. His photographs from 1976 to 1984 include street life, Latin music performers and early hip-hop events, recording the neighbourhood as both a lived environment and a centre of musical invention.
Conzo became the Cold Crush Brothers’ photographer after meeting members at South Bronx High School. He photographed performances at venues including the T-Connection, Disco Fever and Harlem World, as well as groups such as the Treacherous Three and the Fantastic Five. Cornell University Library holds a substantial collection of his photographs and negatives within its hip-hop archive.
