Sam McPheeters

Sam McPheeters is a writer and musician whose career links American hardcore punk with fiction and cultural criticism. Born in Ohio and raised in upstate New York, he began publishing young and later sang with Born Against, Men's Recovery Project and Wrangler Brutes, touring in North America, Europe and Japan.

His journalism and essays have appeared in VICE, The Village Voice and the Criterion Collection. He is also the author of the novel The Loom of Ruin. Moving between bands, books and magazine writing, McPheeters has examined the cultures around music as a participant as well as a critic, bringing the experience of independent touring into his later prose.
