Biography
Person.
Alexander McQueen (1969–2010) was a British fashion designer whose work combined precise tailoring with theatrical presentation and historical references. Born in London, he trained on Savile Row and worked in theatrical costume before studying at Central Saint Martins. Isabella Blow bought his graduate collection.
He launched his label in 1992 and became head designer at Givenchy in 1996, remaining there until 2001. His collections drew on subjects including Scottish history, Victorian Gothic and the natural world, using experimental cutting and materials to challenge conventional ideas of beauty.
