Biography
Person.
Steve Dillon (1962–2016) was a British comics artist and writer whose clear, character-driven storytelling made him equally effective in the crowded pages of weekly anthology comics and in long-form American series. He became associated with 2000 AD at a young age, contributing art and scripts across Judge Dredd, Rogue Trooper, A.B.C. Warriors, Bad Company and other strips, and creating characters including Hap Hazzard and Irish Judge Joyce.
Dillon later formed one of modern comics’ most recognisable creative partnerships with writer Garth Ennis. Their work together included Hellblazer, Preacher and The Punisher, with Dillon’s restrained line, precise facial acting and unfussy page construction giving Ennis’s mixture of violence, humour and conversation much of its human weight.
Dillon also worked with Brett Ewins as an editor and publisher of Deadline, contributing to the independent magazine culture that joined comics with music.
