Matthew Donaldson

Matthew Donaldson is a British photographer and director whose commercial and editorial work spans fashion, portraiture, interiors and still life. His photographs have appeared in publications including Vogue Paris and Condé Nast Traveller, alongside a long career directing television commercials.

His exhibition Making Mistakes explored a different aspect of photographic production: the marks and accidents generated during digital retouching. By developing these traces into abstract works, Donaldson shifted attention from the finished commercial image to the processes used to construct it. The project extended his work in commissioned photography into gallery-based experimentation.
