Russell Mulcahy

Russell Mulcahy is an Australian film and music-video director whose work helped define the visual scale of early MTV. He directed the Buggles’ Video Killed the Radio Star, the first video broadcast on the channel in 1981, and developed a sustained collaboration with Duran Duran on videos including Hungry Like the Wolf, Rio, The Reflex and The Wild Boys.

His feature films include Razorback, Highlander, Ricochet and The Shadow. Moving between promotional films, cinema and television, he brought elaborate locations, fast cutting and theatrical imagery to the meeting of pop music and screen spectacle.
