Biography

Person.

Robert Palmer (1949–2003) was an English singer whose recordings crossed soul, funk, rock, reggae and pop. After working with the Alan Bown! and Vinegar Joe, he began his solo career on Island Records with Sneakin’ Sally Through the Alley (1974), recording with musicians including the Meters and Lowell George.

He later sang with the Power Station and released Riptide (1985), which included Addicted to Love. The song’s video, conceived by photographer Terence Donovan, helped make Palmer’s suited image a familiar feature of 1980s pop culture.
