Biography

Person.

Brian Azzarello is an American comics writer whose work has repeatedly brought the fatalism, moral ambiguity and damaged protagonists of crime fiction into both creator-owned comics and established superhero mythology. Writing professionally since the mid-1990s, he became best known through 100 Bullets, created with artist Eduardo Risso, a hundred-issue Vertigo series built around revenge, conspiracy and the corrosive relationship between money and power.

Azzarello has also written Hellblazer, Batman: Broken City, Joker, Luthor, Superman: For Tomorrow and Wonder Woman, often approaching familiar characters by exposing the flaws and compromises beneath their iconic surfaces. His collaborations extend across artists including Risso, Lee Bermejo, Jim Lee and Cliff Chiang.
