Biography
Person.
Ian Anderson is a British graphic designer and a founder of The Designers Republic, established in Sheffield with Nick Phillips in 1986. He came to design through the city's music scene after moving there to study philosophy. Early work for the band Person to Person developed into a studio practice closely associated with record sleeves, club graphics and electronic music.
The Designers Republic's clients have included Warp Records, Aphex Twin, Pop Will Eat Itself and Pulp, alongside the Wipeout games and Gatecrasher. Its visual language draws on technology, consumer culture and the collision of typography, symbols and densely layered images. Anderson has described popular culture and the behaviour of audiences as starting points for his design thinking.
