Biography

Person.

Doug Aitken is an American artist whose work uses moving images and architectural space. Born in 1968, he creates installations in which viewers encounter several screens and narratives at once, often exploring the rhythms and disconnection of contemporary urban life.

His 1999 work electric earth follows a young man through Los Angeles in an eight-channel video environment. For sleepwalkers in 2007, commissioned by the Museum of Modern Art and Creative Time, he projected film sequences onto the museum’s exterior, bringing the work into the surrounding streets.
