Biography
Person.
Leslie Winer is an American musician, poet and former fashion model, credited as Lesley Weiner in The Face. After growing up in Boston and moving to New York for art school, she became part of a circle that included William S. Burroughs. Her modelling work brought collaborations with photographers including Helmut Newton and Irving Penn.
In London, Winer moved into experimental music through connections around Leigh Bowery’s club Taboo. Her album Witch combined spoken language, sampling and electronic rhythms. Later collaborations included work with Jon Hassell and Jah Wobble, and the anthology When I Hit You — You’ll Feel It brought together recordings from across her musical career.
