Biography
Person.
Winona Ryder is an American actor whose early films became closely associated with the outsiders and disaffected teenagers of late-1980s cinema. Her roles included Lydia Deetz in Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice and Veronica Sawyer in Heathers, followed by Edward Scissorhands and Mermaids.
Her later work ranged from period films such as The Age of Innocence and Little Women to the contemporary settings of Reality Bites and Girl, Interrupted. She reached a new television audience as Joyce Byers in Stranger Things. Across these roles, Ryder’s screen identity has connected gothic fantasy, adolescent independence and more mature accounts of vulnerability and determination.
