Biography
Person.
Garry Leach (1954–2022) was a British comics artist, inker, editor and publisher whose exacting draftsmanship linked the first wave of 2000 AD talent with the more formally ambitious British comics of the 1980s. After early work on Dan Dare, M.A.C.H.1, Judge Dredd, The V.C.s and Future Shocks, he became the first artist on Alan Moore’s revival of Marvelman for Warrior in 1982. Leach’s dense blacks, sculptural figures and meticulous rendering established much of the visual seriousness of that reinvention before Alan Davis succeeded him, while Leach continued as an inker.
He also co-created the Warpsmiths with Moore and later helped establish A1 and Atomeka Press, extending his influence from drawing into independent publishing. Later credits included Hitman, Global Frequency, The Twelve and numerous covers and inking assignments across British and American comics.
