Biography
Person.
Jimmy Pursey is an English singer and songwriter best known as the frontman of Sham 69, formed in Hersham in 1975. The group’s early releases included “I Don’t Wanna”, produced by John Cale, before a run of chart singles on Polydor.
Songs such as “If the Kids Are United”, “Hurry Up Harry” and “Hersham Boys” made Pursey’s voice central to the band’s direct, communal style of punk. Sham 69’s albums included Tell Us the Truth, That’s Life and The Adventures of the Hersham Boys. Following the original group’s break-up, he pursued solo work and subsequently returned to performing with Sham 69.
