Loaded Issue 41, September 1997, with David Beckham pushed into the background of the cover behind model Christina Estrada. Loaded later revisited the cover as one of its notable 1990s designs, explaining that Beckham's first interview was judged too restrained to earn the cover alone. The issue contains a five-page Beckham feature, five pages of Christina Estrada photography and the original three-page black-and-white Estrada fold-out poster, here surviving attached. The rear cover is a contemporaneous Oasis Be Here Now launch advertisement dated 21 August 1997, placing the issue squarely inside the peak late-Britpop moment.
Why this object matters
The Beckham/Estrada cover and attached poster document Loaded’s gendered editorial choices at a specific football/Britpop moment. That outstanding evidence merits 8.9, but the cover’s later retrospective mention does not sustain 9.5-level importance. Remove Gold.
