Read Up, Act Up — Wide Awakes guest-edit cover · artwork by Hank Willis Thomas
Dazed Autumn 2020, Issue 269, 'Read Up, Act Up', in the Wide Awakes guest-edit cover variant with artwork by Hank Willis Thomas. Produced amid the COVID-19 pandemic and the racial-justice protests of 2020, the issue deliberately replaced the conventional celebrity cover star with text-led graphic statements and invited six guest editors to organise sections around Black histories, incarceration and abolition, Black British creative life, archives, community, and forms of artistic and democratic protest.

This copy preserves the Wide Awakes cover statement 'Individually we are asleep / Awake we are together', one of the issue's clearest examples of typography functioning as editorial argument rather than decoration.
