Dazed / Dazed & Confused
London-based independent style and culture magazine founded in 1991 by Jefferson Hack and Rankin, emerging from a student publishing context into a major platform for fashion, photography, music and contemporary culture.
Dazed / Dazed & Confused
Dazed & Confused began in 1991 as a youthful independent publishing project by Jefferson Hack and photographer Rankin. Its early issues combined fashion, music, art and subculture with an intentionally experimental visual language, becoming closely associated with the creative culture of 1990s London. The title later shortened to Dazed while expanding into a wider media organisation.
Why it matters
Dazed is relevant to TMR as a bridge between DIY-origin publishing and professional international style media, particularly through its role in British fashion photography, art direction and the documentation of post-rave and 1990s–2000s youth culture.
