Catalogue note
Dazed & Confused Volume Two Number 96, April 2011, The Money Issue, physically ‘hijacked’ by Jake and Dinos Chapman for their “Can’t Pay Your Fees? We’ll Pay Your Fines!” campaign. The cover intervention transforms the fashion magazine into an activist/art object, linking the issue directly to the 2010–11 UK student protests and the debate over higher-education tuition fees. Inside, Mark Fisher discusses the campaign with Jake Chapman and participants from the student movement, while the broader Money Issue examines art, commerce, tax havens, fashion and music. The object preserves an unusually direct collision between contemporary art, youth publishing, protest culture and magazine design.
