Robert Donat & Deborah Kerr cover · probable Perfect Strangers pre-release publicity · Irene Dunne feature

Catalogue note
British wartime Picturegoer issue for the week ending 19 August 1944, with Robert Donat and Deborah Kerr on the colour cover in what is very likely pre-release publicity for Alexander Korda’s Perfect Strangers, then in production and not released until 1945. Inside, a substantial ‘13 Years of Stardom and Versatility’ feature surveys Irene Dunne’s career, while W. H. Mooring’s ‘Hollywood Once-Over’ provides current industry commentary. The rear page adds striking wartime context: Picturegoer’s own post-card service warns that dispatches are delayed ‘owing to Enemy Action’, while a current theatrical advertisement promotes Cecil B. DeMille’s The Story of Dr. Wassell. The issue consequently links British wartime publishing conditions, current cinema exhibition and star publicity in one object.
