Catalogue note
British wartime Picturegoer for the week ending 22 July 1944, with Tyrone Power photographed in military uniform on the cover. Inside, W. H. Mooring profiles Greer Garson at the height of her MGM stardom, while ‘What is a Good Role?’ records James Mason discussing the attraction and risks of villainous parts. The accompanying images explicitly connect Mason to The Man in Grey, Hotel Reserve and the then-current production A Place of One’s Own. The rear page adds unusually direct home-front evidence: a Ministry of Labour and National Service appeal urgently seeking domestic workers to care for wounded men from the Western Battle Front, alongside a Picturegoer Salon notice that enemy action was delaying postal orders.
