design studio
Pentagram
Independent multidisciplinary design partnership founded in London in 1972 and organised around an unusually durable partner-owned, non-hierarchical studio model.
Overview
Pentagram
Pentagram was founded on 12 June 1972 by Theo Crosby, Alan Fletcher, Colin Forbes, Mervyn Kurlansky and Kenneth Grange. Its partnership structure allowed individual design practices to operate within a shared studio, spanning graphic design, identity, products, architecture, digital work and publishing.
Why it matters
Pentagram is relevant to TMR wherever design authorship and advisory work are part of an object’s cultural history, particularly books and identities that demonstrate how major design practices shape material culture.
