United States Mint
Federal mint of the United States, established by the Coinage Act of 1792 to produce the nation’s coinage.
Overview
United States Mint
The Coinage Act of 2 April 1792 established a national mint in Philadelphia. The United States Mint now manufactures legal-tender circulating coinage as well as commemorative, bullion and collector issues, making coin design and production part of the country’s official material culture.
Why it matters
For TMR, the United States Mint connects bullion and numismatic objects to state design, monetary history, precious-metal production and the distinction between face value and collectible or bullion value.
