Biography

Person.

Ed Hannigan is an American comics artist and writer whose career spans major work for both Marvel and DC from the 1970s onward. His credits include long associations with superhero publishing as artist, writer and cover designer, with work on characters including Spider-Man, Green Arrow and Batman.

At DC he became the artist of Batman: Shaman, the five-part story by Dennis O’Neil that opened Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight in 1989 and helped establish the series as a venue for self-contained interpretations of Batman outside the monthly titles’ immediate continuity. Hannigan’s clear storytelling and strong compositional sense also made him a prolific cover artist, where a single image had to communicate character, action and premise at newsstand speed.
