Writer: Dennis O’Neil
Cover: Outer collector wrap / design: Dean Motter; inner painted cover: Ed Hannigan / George Pratt
Edition: US first printing · Pink “Collector’s Special” outer cover. Issue #1 was deliberately issued with four simultaneous coloured outer wraps — Blue, Yellow, Pink and Orange — over the same inner painted cover. This is a marketing/collector-cover variation, not a later reprint or retailer incentive.

Why this object matters
The first Legends of the Dark Knight issue, Dean Motter-designed pink wrap and verified attached Shocker poster form an outstanding record of the 1989 Batman publishing and film-marketing moment. The simultaneous coloured wraps are commercial variations, not proven rarity. Retain its high standing at 8.8 but remove Gold: the complete promotional state does not alone put it alongside the most consequential original works.
Evidence limits: No new physical inspection or collation was performed. Copy-specific conclusions remain limited to the retained catalogue and accession evidence.
