Juergen Teller is a photographer whose fashion images and portraits brought an intentionally immediate, anti-gloss sensibility into high-profile editorial and advertising work. After photographic study in Munich he moved to London in 1986, building a practice that crosses commissioned fashion, portraiture, books and exhibitions.
His subjects range from musicians and models to artists and family life, often photographed with visible flash, ordinary locations and a refusal to idealise the encounter. The National Portrait Gallery records campaigns for designers including Marc Jacobs and Helmut Lang alongside portraits of figures such as Kate Moss and Kurt Cobain.
