Richard Starkings

Richard Starkings is a British comics letterer, writer and lettering designer. Born in Leeds in 1962, he founded Comicraft, whose digital fonts and lettering work have been used throughout the American comics industry.

His work extends from the technical and visual craft of lettering into original series. He created Elephantmen, a science-fiction world developed with artists including Boo Cook and Axel Medellin, and collaborated with Abigail Jill Harding on Ask for Mercy. The Beef, made with Shaky Kane and Tyler Shainline, is another creator-owned project. Comicraft also publishes resources explaining how lettering shapes the reading of a comic page.
