Biography
Person.
Jeremy Deller is a British artist whose work often takes the form of collective events, performances and projects about social history. He studied art history at the Courtauld Institute and the University of Sussex, and staged the early exhibition Open Bedroom in his family home.
Acid Brass, developed with the Williams Fairey Band in 1997, brought brass-band traditions together with acid house. The Battle of Orgreave, from 2001, revisited a confrontation during the miners’ strike through a large-scale re-enactment. His later projects include The Triumph of Art, commissioned for the National Gallery’s bicentenary and developed with communities and institutions across the United Kingdom.
