Catalogue note
October 2003, Vol. 2 Issue 6 of Dazed & Confused, fronted by Hana Soukupova in a Laurence Passera photograph styled by Nicola Formichetti. The issue is a strong snapshot of Dazed at the point where fashion image-making, experimental music, film and contemporary art were being edited into one cultural field: Kraftwerk are promoted with what Dazed calls their first interview in 16 years; 18-year-old Scarlett Johansson appears in a five-page feature photographed by Taryn Simon; Jason Pierce of Spiritualized, Samantha Morton and Paddy Considine, Sam Durant, Kim Gordon and David Byrne sit alongside six substantial fashion stories and emerging-designer coverage. It is especially valuable as a 2003 document of contributors who would become major figures across cinema, conceptual photography and fashion, while retaining the magazine’s characteristic interest in subculture and visual experimentation.
Why this object matters
The Kraftwerk interview and Taryn Simon/Johansson feature give this issue unusually strong music and conceptual-photography context. Increase to 8.8 while keeping the unphotographed Silas print design unverified and attributing the interview-gap claim to Dazed.
Evidence limits: Complete under the standing TMR rule: all pages/components are treated as present unless specifically reported missing. The photographed contents advertise a Silas & Maria “Where Is Silas?” poster/print giveaway; its presence is therefore assumed, but the specific one-of-five print design is not photographed and remains unverified.
