Biography

Person.

John Lydon is a British singer and songwriter who became known as Johnny Rotten with the Sex Pistols. Raised in north London by Irish parents, he joined the group in 1975 and supplied the vocals and lyrics that helped define its confrontational public identity.

After the band's split in 1978, Lydon formed Public Image Ltd, developing a broader musical language across changing line-ups. His collaborations include World Destruction with Afrika Bambaataa and Open Up with Leftfield. He has also made television programmes, recorded solo work and published the autobiography Rotten: No Irish, No Blacks, No Dogs.
