Biography
Person.
Marvin Gaye (1939–1984) was an American singer, songwriter and producer closely associated with Motown. He joined the company after performing with Harvey and the Moonglows, and recorded solo hits and duets with singers including Tammi Terrell, Kim Weston and Diana Ross.
His 1971 album What’s Going On marked an expansion of his creative control and addressed war, racism and social hardship. Later recordings included Let’s Get It On, I Want You and Sexual Healing. His work brought together gospel, soul and an increasingly personal approach to studio production.
