Catalogue note
June 1984 50th issue of The Face, with the 'Bodylicious!' cover photographed by Mario Testino. Nick Logan's contents-page note reflects on founding and sustaining the magazine as it reached its fiftieth issue. The issue combines features on the 1984 mod revival, Jerry Dammers, Richard Branson, Los Angeles gang violence, Marvin Gaye's funeral and Stevie Wonder with Derek Ridgers nightlife photography, Gilbert & George, music and fashion coverage. The surviving Hyper Hyper rear advertisement preserves additional evidence of London's contemporary fashion-retail environment.
Why this object matters
Logan’s founding reflection, Ridgers nightlife work and the broader retrospective give the fiftieth issue outstanding self-documentary value. The round number itself does not justify Gold; retain 8.9 with the publication-history context intact.
Evidence limits: No new physical inspection or collation was performed. Copy-specific conclusions remain limited to the retained catalogue and accession evidence.
Score and assessment method
Archive Importance: 8.9 / 10.
This is a curatorial judgement, not a measurement accurate to one tenth or a market valuation. Read the explanation and its evidence limits together.
