Biography
Person.
Robert Wyatt is an English singer, drummer and composer associated with the Canterbury music scene and Britain’s experimental rock underground. He helped form Soft Machine in 1966, playing drums and singing as the group developed its mixture of psychedelic rock and jazz. His subsequent projects included Matching Mole and a substantial body of solo recordings.
Rock Bottom, released in 1974, established a distinctive musical world around his intimate voice and unconventional arrangements. Later albums include Shleep, Cuckooland and Comicopera. His recording of Shipbuilding also brought that voice to a wider audience, while collaborations have connected his music with successive generations of independent musicians.
