Michael Caine is a British actor born Maurice Micklewhite in Bermondsey, London. After military service and repertory theatre, he gained international recognition through Zulu, The Ipcress File and Alfie. His Harry Palmer films and later roles in Get Carter and Educating Rita made his voice and screen presence part of several distinct periods of British cinema.
His career also encompasses extensive work in American film, including an Academy Award-winning supporting performance in The Cider House Rules. Knighted in 2000, he received a BAFTA Fellowship the same year, recognising a career spanning popular entertainment and character drama.
