Biography
Person.
Eddy Grant is a Guyana-born musician, songwriter, producer and record-label owner who moved to London in 1960. He helped form the Equals in 1965 and wrote the group’s hit Baby Come Back. His later solo records brought reggae into contact with rock, funk and electronic instrumentation.
Grant established Coach House Studios in Stamford Hill and the independent label Ice Records. His international hits include Electric Avenue, which drew on the context of the 1981 Brixton disturbances. Recording facilities and label ownership have been central to his pursuit of musical independence.
