Biography
Person.
Dave Gibbons is a British comics artist and writer whose career connects the formative years of 2000 AD with one of the most influential graphic novels in modern comics. He was involved with 2000 AD from its first issue, drawing strips including Harlem Heroes, Dan Dare and Rogue Trooper and contributing to Judge Dredd during the comic’s early development. Gibbons’s drawing is built around clarity: controlled grids, precise acting and highly legible environments allow complex ideas to accumulate without sacrificing narrative momentum.
That discipline became central to Watchmen, his collaboration with Alan Moore, where recurring visual motifs, mirrored compositions and the rigid nine-panel grid made page design part of the book’s argument about time, memory and causality. Watchmen became an international landmark, while Gibbons later wrote and drew The Originals and worked across Green Lantern, Superman and other major titles.
