Catalogue note
Original The Face No. 91, November 1987, with a large two-tone dark/pink close portrait of George Michael credited to photographer Russell Young. The magazine's November 1987 release coincides with Michael's debut solo album Faith, officially released 30 October 1987; Young also photographed the separate original Faith sleeve (not claimed as the same image). George Michael is interviewed by Tony Parsons at p56. The original contents span football fanzines under 'When Saturday Comes' (p52), Crispin Glover and River's Edge (p46), Clive James by Ian Penman (p72), Alan Moore's Watchmen (p80) just after its 12-issue finale, Filipino pop subject Eleanor (p84), Lemmy (p88), dwarf bullfighting (p96), Freddie McGregor (p102) and two fashion stories (pp110,116). An original full-page Halifax Cardcash advertisement survives on the back; pages p3 index and p21 bulletin are photographed. An independent Brian Aris portrait taken for the November 1987 Face feature is now in the National Portrait Gallery: this interior-related photographer must not be conflated with Russell Young's original cover credit. No exact issue in TMR.
