Biography
Person.
Vic Godard is a British singer and songwriter who formed Subway Sect during the first wave of London punk. The group appeared at the 100 Club’s punk festival and toured with the Clash, recording songs including Nobody’s Scared and Ambition.
Godard’s subsequent music moved towards jazz, swing and a more measured vocal style, challenging the expectation that punk musicians should remain within one sound. He later worked with Edwyn Collins and released The End of the Surrey People through Postcard Records. His recording career, interrupted by periods working as a postman, links punk’s independent beginnings with later Scottish pop and a continuing interest in classic songwriting.
