Larry Towell

Larry Towell is a Canadian photographer, writer and musician who joined Magnum Photos in 1988. His long-term documentary projects have examined conflict and displacement in Central America, Palestine, Afghanistan and Ukraine, alongside the lives of Mennonite communities in Mexico and Canada.

Questions of land, belonging and the loss of home run through both his reporting and his photographs of family life in Ontario. His books include The Mennonites, The World from My Front Porch and Afghanistan. He has also developed films and recordings, including The Man I Left Behind, bringing songwriting and documentary photography into the same body of work.
