Biography
Person.
Gordon Summers is an engraver and jewellery designer who joined the Royal Mint in 1993 after training as a jeweller. He became its chief engraver in 2008, working across traditional hand engraving and the digital methods used to design and produce modern coinage.
His work has extended to the Mint’s 886 jewellery range, applying coin-making skills and equipment to wearable objects. With United States Mint chief engraver Joseph Menna, he co-designed the 2024 Britannia and Liberty coin, giving the two national figures equal prominence in a composition inspired by playing-card court cards.
