Biography
Person.
Paula Scher is a graphic designer whose work moves between identity systems, typography, environmental graphics and publication design. Her early art direction in the music industry developed into an eclectic typographic language; as a Pentagram partner from 1991, she has created major identities for cultural institutions and public-facing organisations.
The Public Theater identity became especially influential for its forceful use of type and its ability to turn a programme of events into a recognisable civic voice. Scher also makes large, densely lettered map paintings, linking information design to subjective image-making.
