Terence Young was a British film director who helped establish the screen identity of James Bond. Born in Shanghai in 1915 and educated in England, he worked as a screenwriter before directing films including The Red Beret, an early collaboration with future Bond producer Albert R. Broccoli.
He directed Dr. No, From Russia with Love and Thunderball, shaping their combination of action, humour and sophistication. He also helped Sean Connery develop Bond's manner and ease with clothes and social settings.
