Biography

Person.

Vashti Bunyan is a British singer and songwriter whose debut recordings were made in the 1960s under Andrew Loog Oldham’s guidance. A journey towards Scotland by horse and cart helped shape the songs on Just Another Diamond Day, produced by Joe Boyd and released in 1970.

After withdrawing from the music industry, Bunyan gradually acquired a new audience through the album’s rediscovery and reissue. She returned with Lookaftering in 2005 and later Heartleap, while collaborations with Devendra Banhart and Animal Collective introduced her work to another generation. Her quiet, closely observed songs connect British pastoral songwriting with later experimental and independent folk music.
