Biography

Person.

Bryan Ferry is a British singer, songwriter and visual stylist whose work with Roxy Music helped make the presentation of pop music as important as its sound. Born in Washington, County Durham, he studied fine art at Newcastle University before forming Roxy Music, becoming the group’s singer and principal songwriter.

Across albums from Roxy Music and For Your Pleasure to Avalon, the band combined art-school experimentation, glamour, electronics and sophisticated pop songwriting with a carefully controlled visual identity built through record sleeves, fashion and performance. Ferry began a parallel solo career in 1973 and developed an equally distinctive approach to interpretation, arrangement and romantic melancholy.
